Seeing (this morning) my forum titled "Do people care if they misspell a word?" I'm reminded of writing courses I taught at the Univ. of Missouri School of Journalism. Although some of my students were professional journalists, on leave, and others would soon be journalists or magazine writers, I found that many of them regarded spelling as something to be corrected by their editors, whose primary jobs were to improve their articles, by tightening, restructuring, etc. Some of these writers would say to me something like "I hope I haven't misspelled too many words." And if the had, I would simply lower their grade.
